How to enter to GDS programming

Use Internet explorer to connect to GDS.
Default address of GDS is

The system is non-password protected when first installed. After setting a password in Program 13, the system becomes Password protected so that only the person why knows the “password” has access to system database information.

Enter password and check [Remote Access] when do Remote Programming.

Java Plug In

If your computer has Windows XP installed, it is very likely that Java is not installed.  Microsoft did not include it in Windows XP, but it should be present in all previous versions of Windows (2000, ME, 98). You can find the Java plug-in for your web browser at:

This should automatically download Java to the computer. As you might expect, you will need to be connected to the internet in order to download and install this package.
Once that is downloaded, the Java application that shows the menu of GDS programming menu options on the left side of the screen should run with no problems

Java Blocking Access to Older Series GDS Browser

Issue Reported

When trying to access the older version GDS system browser Interface (Older interface without Hybrex Logo and Blue graphics) you get a warning box indicating the application has being blocked by security settings.

Reason for Issue

Sometime during December 2013 and early January 2014 a new JAVA update has being automatically sent out to users PC’s. This new version JAVA has its security set to the level that is blocking access to the “Older” version GDS Browser Interface.

Actions you can take

Upgrade the GDS system software to the current release version.

  1. To calculate the running time of batteries

Example 1:

         GDS-64 and 16 digital key phones (1 cabinet and 2 STU cards)

  • GDS64 + G2-STU x 2 + 16 x Digital phones = 3.02 + (1.13 x 2) + (16 x 1.25) = 25.28w / 40v= 0.63A
  • 、Discharge coefficient CA:

0.63 / (7Ah x 0.5)= 0.18CA

(0.5= Estimated battery remnant capacity)

  • Check above battery discharge coefficient table for 0.18 CA to get the discharge time of battery backup is around 4 hours.

Example 2:

GDS-160, 12 CO, 16 digital key phones and 40 single line phones

(1 80 port cabinet, 3 TKU cards, 2 STU cards, 5 SLU cards, 16 digital key phones and 40 SLTs)

  • GDS 160 + G2-TKU x 3 + G2-STU x 2 + G2-SLU x 5 + 16 digit phones + 40 SLTs

= 4.49+ (0.43 x 3)+(1.13 x 2)+(2.57 x 5)+(1.25 x16)+(0.8 x 40)= 72.89w / 40v = 1.8A

    1. / (7Ah*0.5) = 0.514 CA

(0.5= Estimated battery remnant capacity)

  • Check above coefficient table for 0.514 CA to get the discharge time of battery backup is around 1~1.5 hours.

How many (maximum) trunks in GSD640?

The maximum of GDS640 trunks is 255.

GDS cards type in Technical Information

Please check in Technical Information.

First digit 5 in cabinet 1 means 3 bit binary for VMU1, VMU2 and MSU, MSU is high bit. So VMU1 and MSU are installed.

Other digits are 10 slots and means as below.

0= not install,    1= STU,            2= SLU,            3= TKU/ITUN4,     4= BRI,             5= PIU

6= IDU,             7= TKU2/ITUN8,   8= HSU4/4,       9= HSU2/6,        10= EMU,         11= ISU3

12= ISUN8,          13/14= not use,             15= Virtual

How the number of communication path is affected by DISA card?

Each VMU Card supports 8 concurrent DISA incoming calls but announcement is 4 channels.

How many trunks per cabinet in GDS600?

Each cabinet can install 5 pieces of TKU cards but we have two kinds TKU, G2-TKU=4 channels, G2-TKU= 8 channels, so the maximum is 40.

Firmware upgrade of G2-IPU

Hardware requirements  –

  1. Personal Computer
  2. RS232 Cable with RJ-11(6-wire cable) and DTE-DB9 Female Connector
  3. GDS Digital System

Software requirements  –

  1. Winloader.EXE    (Programming Software – Windows Version)
  2. Upgrading the GDS G2-IPU software via PC
  3. Follow steps below to upgrade the G2-IPU software:

1.    Turn off the GDS system.

2.    Connect the RS232 cable from GDS to PC, RJ-11(6-wire cable) with GDS RS-232 port and DTE-DB9 Female connector with PC COM port.
RS232 port on G2-MSU – Multi Service Card

Item 3 is RS232 connector.

3.    Run Winloader.exe on PC.

4.    Select baud rate 56000 for GDS and select the correct COM port on your PC. And then click [OK].

5.    Click [File]->[Open] from Winloader Menu.

6.    Open the specified system software from PC folder and then click [Open].
7.    Winloader will display below information automatically. Normally just keep it as it is for this setting. Nothing needs to be changed.
8.    Power on GDS system.
9.    Click [Download] from Winloader menu to proceed the upgrade.
10.    System will start to download the software back to GDS.

Once there is any connection failure happened, just repeat step 9 to continue the download. Don’t power off the system at this time. Otherwise, it may have the possibility that system cannot start.

11.    After the successful download, unplug the DTE cable between PC and GDS.

12.    Power off and power on the system again to restart the system.

Preparing the External Battery Backup for GDS

The Key Service Unit can have two battery backup devices BBOX1 connected for emergency power when a power failure takes place.

If you are installing an optional Battery Backup (BBOX1), make certain that there is adequate room for its installation.  Make certain that the Battery Backup is mounted close enough to the Power Supply that the interconnecting cable between the Battery Backup and the Power Supply can connect.

Do Not Connect the Battery Backup at this time!  Battery Backup should not be connected to the System power supply until all power up testing has been completed!

Charging the Battery
The rechargeable batteries are automatically charged when the KSU is plugged in.
When System is in a full-load condition (eight CO Trunks and twenty-four Extensions all in use), the batteries provide a minimum of 1 hour’s consecutive use.  Change the batteries every two years.

Connection of G2-STU2 (8 ports Digital Phone)

Digital Key Telephone – DK1-21/DK2-21/DK3-31/DK6-21 on STU2 card

  •     Digital phones must not be paralleled on an STU2 card
  •     Each phone must be a home run back to either the inner or outer pair of each DDK connector
  •     All Digital phones must be set to be “A” phones

Connection of G2-SLU (8 ports Single Line Telephone)

  • Terminate the station wires with the connectors that are provided.  The stations will connect to the KSU through the G2-SLU.
  • Connect Tip terminal with GRN terminal (screws) of the modular jack, Ring with RED.
  • There is no polarity requirement on Tip and Ring.
  • 2-conductor wiring is required for Single Line Telephones.

Connection of G2-PIU (Digital Line)

Hardware Installation of G2-PIU-2

1.    RJ 45 Connector:   
Pin 1,2: for TX.
Pin 4,5: for RX.

2.    LED 33: For PLL sync. On: sync OK.
3.    LED 11: For the heart bead of DSP chip. Normally flash in MMD80 and off in MMD64.
4.    LED 22: For Sync layer 1 with network.
Off: No connection.
Flash: There are some troubles to sync.
On: Sync OK.
5.    LED 3: For PLL sync. On: sync OK.
6.    LED 1: For the heart bead of DSP chip. Normally flash in MMD80 and off in MMD64.
7.    LED 2: For Sync layer 1 with network.
Off: No connection.
Flash: There are some troubles to sync.
On: Sync OK.
8.    DSP chip for T1/E1 interface.
9.    CN4/CN5:
Jumpers on CN4 is for E1 interface and ISDN PRI/E1 interface.
Jumpers on CN5 is for T1 interface and ISDN PRI/T1 interface.
